Meditation is Healing for Mind, Body, and Spirit.Although it isn't really discussed much, meditation is healing in and of itself. There are many aspects to this, so we'll start from the purely physical and work our way up from there. When you meditate, no matter how you do it, you will be relaxing the body. This alone will do much, but there is more to it than that. In a way you are letting your body reset and restore to a better way of operating, not unlike restarting a computer. Tension drains away, allowing your body to step in and replenish and repair as needed. We keep our bodies in constant survival mode, so there is no chance for downtime except for sleep, and quite often we don't see to it that we sleep properly, either. Meditation will teach your body to let go. Beyond that, we need to take a step back and look at what the body is and what it's made of. Each and every cell in your body is a discrete life form; each one is separate. You are not these life forms. You are the guiding intelligence that keeps the system working. You accept their input in the form of pain, pleasure, hunger, thirst, comfort and discomfort. By meditating, you open yourself up to better communicate with the micro universe that is your body. Meditation is healing for the mind as well. Just as your body does a reset, so does the brain. Instead of following the same worn-down paths of thought like a hamster on a wheel, the mind opens to new possibilities. As you develop non-thought, you begin to notice patterns in your behavior and thinking that you didn't even know were there (and in many cases, would have sworn weren't there). When you finish meditating, it's common to notice that the senses are sharper: Everything seems a little brighter and clearer, the sound is richer, and the textures are far more detailed. This is because your mind is free (for the moment) of all the inane babble that makes up day-to-day life. Having a reset button handy is a great resource. Lastly, meditation is healing for the soul. Just as you form a better relationship with your own little Universe, so too do you form a better relationship with the Universe around you. As you meditate, you start to realize that these micro-organisms aren't you, and these patterns of thought you've been holding aren't you. This opens the door to the question and answer: Who are you, then? The answer is there, but it can only be experienced first-hand. Once you know yourself, you can better know the Source. This alone is worth meditating, because you're worth it. If you must bring others into it, let me put it this way: With all the benefits described above, how could that possibly hurt your healing work? For further reading:
