The Lotus Flower Symbol: Life, Transformation, and Enlightenment.

The Lotus Flower Symbol is as important as it is beautiful.

When studying healing work, the lotus flower symbol pops up surprisingly often. It's easy to simply glaze over it as a bit of decoration, but the symbolism behind the lotus is an important. Using the lotus can unlock the right states of mind, and the right intentions to not only heal, but to evolve spiritually as well.

First, let's take a look at the flower itself. You see the blossom on top of the water. but it's roots go down into the dirt and mud at the bottom. The blossom rides on the surface of the water, smelling beautiful and open to the sun. This is a powerful symbol of progress. Starting down in the mud, you rise up and open to the light and warmth of the Source.

In America there is a saying: If life hands you lemons, make lemonade. The lotus is a gentle reminder that even in the worst of origins (the mud), beauty can result.

From there, it is not hard to see that the lotus flower symbol can also be one of transformation. We are making lemons from lemonade after all. As we let go of attachments, and that which brings us unrest and disease we become more relaxed and fluidic. Eventually, we peek beyond the push-and-pull of life and find the first few rays of enlightenment. Basking in the richness and beauty of the Universe around us, we naturally open to share our gifts with all around us.

It is partly due to this symbolism that the lotus flower symbol is found throughout much of Asia. It is used to depict beauty, enlightenment, health, purity, and peace.

Reflecting on the lotus can help maneuver your mind to a state openness and flow, which is helpful for healing work, other spiritual work, or just plain enjoying life more. Try it out!
