Chakra Healing with Reiki: Energy healing for your energy body.

For many who study energy work the word "chakra" is probably well known. Chakra healing with Reiki can be surprisingly effective. However, one thing that keeps surprising me is how often people will use energy healing with a purely physical focus. Perhaps better results can come from giving energy healing the "home turf advantage".

Although chakras are well-known to many people these days, I'm going to go over the basics real quick. The body has paths by which energy flows, commonly called "meridians". When you get a nexus or junction of these, it is called a chakra. You have hundreds of chakras all over, but for our immediate purposes, we're going to stick with the major ones, which are the most discussed.

Chakra Healing with Reiki can be very effective

A brief rundown on the major chakras.

The most commonly described chakras are seven in number, and they run more- or-less vertically down your body. Although they are commonly associated with a color, it is important not to get hung up on what color it might be. It's just a way of trying to explain them. Keep the idea, but throw out the method used to put the idea across.

Chakra healing with Reiki need not be difficult or complex, but it's good to have the info. Here is a brief summary, but there is far more in-depth information on chakras elsewhere online.

  • The base chakra: This chakra is located at the base of your torso and is commonly pictured as red. This chakra deals mainly with the basic needs of the body; survival.
  • The pelvic chakra deals heavily with the emotions. If you are feeling emotionally fatigued, or are having pain in terms of relating to people, you might want to check out this chakra. It is commonly imagined as orange.
  • The solar plexus chakra deals a lot with your sense of personal power. Commonly imagined as yellow, this chakra when balanced manifests assertiveness without domination.
  • The heart chakra, commonly imagined to be green, deals with love. Not merely familial love, or romantic love (though they are in there too), this chakra is about universal love. Unconditional love and compassion. At the same time, if you have problems here, you can feel unworthy or disconnected. This chakra, being in the center, seems act almost like a keystone; You can't go far wrong working on it.
  • The throat chakra deals with expression and communication. Commonly thought of as blue, this chakra could be blocked or unbalanced if you cannot make yourself heard, or if you are experiencing a lot of dishonesty.
  • The brow chakra, also known as the third eye chakra, deals with intuition, perception, and concentration. It is commonly imagined as royal blue or indigo in color. If unbalanced, this chakra can lead to addictions of all kinds, and self-absorbtion.
  • The crown chakra is located at the very top of your head (or just above your head, depending on who you ask). Normally thought of as light violet or colorless/golden, this chakra deals with your connection to the universe and the Source. An unbalanced crown chakra can result in intense negativity and paranoia, as well as insomnia and restlessness.

How I Work Chakra Healing with Reiki

One of the advantages of this method is that it can be used by any Reiki practitioner; you don't have to know the symbols in order for this to work. Instead, just place your hands on-or-near the chakra area and let the Reiki energy flow. You'll probably take more notice of chakras in need now that you've read this, so use it and give the Reiki where it's needed. Of course, as with all sensitive areas, you would move your hands near-but-not-on the body in some cases.

My recommendation for starters is to use it in your self-healing practice. This can be a quick 5-10 minute run up and down your chakras, or you can act even faster by working the heart chakra:

Here is what I will sometimes do for some quick chakra healing with Reiki when it would otherwise be difficult or impossible: First, I place one hand on my chest, with the palm directly in the center of the chest, or over where I feel my heart chakra to be. Then I place my other hand over the first one, both palms lined up and both pointing at the heart chakra, with the pads of my thumbs touching, and the fingers of each hand pointing more-or-less to my shoulders. I have found this to be very soothing and healing, and it may provide similar benefit to you if you're on the go and feel the need to be good to yourself.

Chakra healing with Reiki is but one of many great ways of using Reiki, and but one of many many different ways of performing energy healing. Find what works for you and do some good.
